Research & Writings

Here is some more information about my work and experience that I would like to share with you.

  • I have done research and written about the impact of various physical illnesses on mental health. These illnesses have included renal diseases requiring dialysis, cancer, cardiac problems, lupus and ovarian disorders. These illnesses have also allowed me to see the stress that illness places not only on the patient but also on family members and other caregivers, which can often be helped by treatment.
  • I also have studied and written about the role of psychiatric treatment in helping patients with conditions such as insomnia, sexual disorders, and eating disorders.
  • My published articles and writings have appeared in top peer-reviewed journals in the field such as the The Archives of General Psychiatry, Psychosomatics, and the Psychoanalytic Quarterly. I also am a reviewer for the Mount Sinai Journal of Medicine.
  • I have been invited to give grand rounds and make presentations on my work at a number of major medical centers including Baylor, Tufts and Columbia Universities and the Mount Sinai School of Medicine.
  • I have had cross-cultural experiences in parts of Africa, Europe, Asia and the Caribbean, which have enabled me to bring a broader understanding of human psychology to my work.
  • I am interested in mental health issues in the broader community. I have been interviewed on both television and radio on various aspects of mental health and illness, including National Public Radio and on television programs sponsored by the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill. I chair the medical advisory board of the Riverdale Mental Health Association.
